Macroscopy:

Fruits are very small 3 to 4.5 mm long and 2 to 3 mm broad and sometimes wrongly called seeds, Fruits are dark chocolate to black, with pericarp attached to seeds , Fruits are ovate , oblong, or bean shaped, some what compressed, glabrous rounded or mucronate and pitted. Seed is produced from campylotropous ovule. It is non- endospermic, oily and free from starch. Fruits have no smell. When chewed pungent smell of volatile oil is obtained. Taste is unpleasant. bitter and acrid

Chemical Constituents:

Fruit contains 20 % volatile oil. Mainly contains psoralen and iso psoralen. Isopsoralen is 7:8 furocoumarin and is isomer with psoralen

Uses:

Uses in Dia-vet: According to Ayurveda, Fruits of Bawchi are stomachic and anthelmintic and are useful for gastritis, vomiting, inflammation in intestine and against amoebial attack on stomach
