Chemical Constituents:

Bark contains tannin, wax, rubber, colouring matter, starch, alkaline substance. Seeds contains essential oil. Kernel contains sugar and saponin.
Quercitol, Ursolic acid, Glucose, Quercetin, Hydroquercetin, Taraxerone, Taraxerol, Betulinic acid, Hentriacontane, Lupeol, Saponins.

Uses:

The bark and seed of Bakula is used in the form of paste and decoction to treat . Dental disorders 1. Chewing the seed of bakula make the moving teeth stableĀ  for the same action, gargle with decoction of bakula bark is also usefulĀ  2. The paste of root bark of bakula taken with milk in morning for three days make the teeth stable and firm. Decoction of the bark as astringent and is therefore used in diarrhoea, dysentery and intestinal worms. Alcoholic extract of flowers is useful in heart diseases as it acts specifically on the liver and blood. Flowers and bark have good haemostatic activity and are therefore used in menorrhagia, leucorrhoea, spermatorrhoea, cystitis, gonorrhoea etc. Ripe fruits are used as general tonic.
